Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice choking rescue and CPR! This course is an essential for hunters, hikers, campers, Scout Leaders, and everyone who spends time working or enjoying the wilderness or remote locations. This course is designed to help you understand how body systems work, injuries, and what you can do to treat the problems and stabilize the patient when you are far from help. 16 hour class-2 days. Wilderness first responders are individuals who are trained to respond to emergency situations in remote locations. They are part of a wide variety of wilderness medical providers who deal with medical emergencies that occur in wilderness settings. This is a blended learning class. 5 days. Book must be purchased separately from Amazon or at www.nasar.org
Students can challenge for certification in WFR and WEMT upgrade courses. In a challenge you will have one opportunity to demonstrate the required skills and pass the written exam. For WEMT you must show proof of current EMT certification. You also must have a current BLS and/or make arrangements to complete on day of challenge (additional fee). Skills required include Patient Assessment, Bandaging, Splinting, Spinal Management, and Lifts and Carries. Appointments will be available monthly.
Motivated by the 2012 tragedy at Sandy Hook, multiple agencies convened and developed the STOP THE BLEED program in an attempt to save lives from manmade or natural mass casualty events. In this 90 minute program you can learn to save lives by learning how to stop the bleed.
Kids can make a difference and even help save a life if they know CPR and First Aid. This 3-hour workshop will teach them the basics of Wilderness First Aid and CPR. They will leave with a booklet for their backpack and the start of a DIY First Aid kit. Practice will include bandaging, splinting, CPR, the unexpected night out and more. This workshop is perfect for Kids who enjoy spending time in the outdoors with their families. Ages 9-14.
This class includes the tips and tricks for older babysitters and/or those who may have previously taken a Safe Sitter Class. Includes CPR, AED, and First Aid. Ages 14-18. Participants who complete the requirements will also receive a Heartsaver K-12 card from the AHA. 4-hours.
